Lost Between Pages

I love to read. I tend to read more fiction versus nonfiction. I have a goal to read as many books as I can before the year is up. I like to challenge myself and I also like to discover books that I never would've picked up in the first place. I prefer real books, but lately I have become obsessed with how easy it is to download an ebook on my kindle.

SPOILER ALERT!

Rollins did it again.

The Eye of God - James Rollins

Oh James Rollins. You did it again.

Reading James Rollins is like coming home after a long time away. You just bask in the warmth, the memories, the coziness. It's awesome. You're happy when you are there, and you're sad to go.

I have loved Sigma Force from the very beginning. All the character development, the emotional attachment you get to every single one, and then of course the action packed, sci-fi trip you go on! Phew! Talk about a whiplash with the fast paced, facts just exploding your mind with every page, and cheering on the good guys and hoping the bad guys get crushed.

Rollins knows what he's doing.

SPOILER!!!!
(view spoiler)[ I can't believe that Rachel died. I mean, it was really sad, but it did leave for a nice rap up for Gray and Seichan. Now there's really no love triangle. But still. Rachel...I did like her in the other books. And then the chapter called "Tails"??? WHAT?! So they are alive and well? How does that leave us NOT wondering about the next installment of the Sigma Force team. Plus, possibly, a new team member Josh Leblang from Antarctica!! Plus Sanjur died, and that poor hawk. I just...there was a lot of blood shed on the good guys' side this time. I don't know how I feel about that. Anyway, I cannot wait to see what happens next! Sigh. Until next time....]
END SPOILER

Bottom line: This is such a comfort series to me. It's like a cup of hot tea, cozy blanket, raining outside, all chores are done, just sit and read type of book. I love it. I can't wait for the next one

I feel like this is taking much too long importing all my books from goodreads.com. Plus, not all of my reviews from goodreads have been loaded along with them. *Sigh*

I am disheartened to hear that they were bought by Amazon, but have not personally been affected by it. (None of my reviews have been deleted....at least as far as I know...)

Back to the importing...I know that one day it will get done, and I will feel as if I finally have a handle on this website. But there seems to be things that should be much easier. For instance, when you add a book to your shelf, you should be able to mark it as read, pick your shelves and then immediately begin typing your review. Not having to select "add text."

Like I've said before in other posts, I am new to this website, so please, any tips/tricks/tomfoolery would be gladly accepted and appreciated.

I'm not used to this interface and would like to be better. :)

SPOILER ALERT!
Entwined with You - Sylvia Day

Sylvia Day is a bitch.

There I said it.

Honestly, WTF was she thinking? She told us and led us all to believe that this would be a trilogy. NOPE. Totally screwed us over! And not the way that we like it! UGH!

There was just so much CRAP in this one.

Spoilers ahead...Don't read the next paragraph!

(view spoiler)[ So now their married and Cary is going to have a baby. For as long as Eva was complaining about not waiting to get married, and saying it was too fast, she countered herself every second. "I love him so much, I need him, I can't imagine my life with him" and then she would go on dates with other guys or meet up with them like it was no big deal, but as soon as she saw Gideon with another woman her jealously was so abundantly clear to everyone that she should just marry him and be done it. Eva really annoyed me in this one. Victor Reyes, her dad, found out about was Nathan did to her, since it's public record now that he's dead. And supposedly someone from the Russian mob killed him?? Um what? Day never explained the ending to that one.]

END of Spoilers

There were so many sex scenes in this one. I was just tired of them. And no, not that way. I was really bored of them, to the point of skimming over them.

I feel like this is a total rip off of 50 Shades of Grey trilogy. Day stole all the ideas from that book. She used to be her own person, but now I understand that she's just in it for the money.

Bottom line: I don't think I will be reading anymore of Sylvia Day. She cash cowed out. Very disappointed.

New to this Site

So I am new to this site...obviously!

I am currently importing all of my books from goodreads.com, which is the site where I learned of this one. It says that it's going to take 2488 hours to import. Are you kidding me?!?!? That's a really, really long time. Almost too much for me to grasp.

For now, I'm going to stay loyal to goodreads. However I am liking how you can post things that are not necessarily about books. For example, this post.

I like the blogging. I've never done it before, so this ought to be interesting and exciting.

Stay with Me - Elyssa Patrick This was just ok.I mean it had a lot more of storytelling to it, which I was surprised at, but overall it was just another New Adult fiction book. The twist was with her having a Hollywood career that she left behind to pursue college and find herself.I was getting really annoyed with her self doubt and self consciousness. It's like, you were famous for a reason, you have talent and yet you're insecure about your art paintings? C'mon. A little unrealistic. And Caleb was uber sweet. Almost too sweet. He had no flaws.Bottom line: Cute little story line, however I will not be picking up the next in the series. I liked the way it ended (happy ending, no cliffhanger) and don't care much for the other characters to keep reading.

Sharp Objects: A Novel

Sharp Objects - Gillian Flynn Well done Gillian Flynn. Bravo.Another great psychological thriller by Ms. Flynn. This is my second book that I've read by her. The first was [b:Gone Girl|8442457|Gone Girl|Gillian Flynn|http://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1339602131s/8442457.jpg|13306276], which was a total mindfuck. This one, although a lot of the suspense and momentum building was good, was not as spectacular as Gone Girl. The abuse, violence, and hostility that went on made me squeamish. This is not for the faint of heart. And then the parts about the slaughterhouse....I wanted to vomit. You learned to hate the characters as much as you wanted them to personally suffer. All the pain that Camille went through...I can't believe it. The ending...with that surprised, shock and awe twist. WOW. I had to re-read that paragraph, because I did a headshake "whoa, wait WHAT?!" Reason for 4 stars only - I wanted to see the ending tied up a little better. So much effort was placed on the pain and abuse in this book, and I understand why, but then I felt the ending was just left hanging... With so much time spent on other trivialities, I felt that the ending for this one character should have had more closure for her. Oh well. I just wanted her to be happy.Bottom line: Good read. I could see myself liking it more if I hadn't read Gone Girl first. Not recommended for the squeamish or faint of heart. Gillian Flynn truly delivers another mindfuck.

Breach

Breach - K.I. Lynn SMUT.That's all I thought of when I was reading this book. It's just trash. And the "dirty talk" is just plain abusive. And why do authors think that they can make ANY story a trilogy? What's with the cliffhangers? Please just finish one darn book. Everyone's riding the darn cash cow.Bottom line: Their whole relationship was abusive, not enticing. Another 50 Shades of Grey knock off. Don't bother with this one.
The Opportunist (Love Me With Lies, #1) - Tarryn Fisher This was so dumb. This is nothing like anything that I've read. This Olivia bitch is such a manipulative c word. I never use that word. But for real? She missed up soooo many peoples' lives all because she "love/loved" Caleb. I can't get over the horrenduous acts that she committed. She was literally a terrorist. This was junk. And it can't even be classified as romance even though that's what Amazon said it was.[b:Avoiding Commitment|13345975|Avoiding Commitment (Avoiding, #1)|K.A. Linde|http://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1343768792s/13345975.jpg|18562276] was MUCH MUCH better than this junk. Highly recommend that one.Bottomline: Not worth the 99 cents for the ebook. This was horrible.
The Mill River Recluse - Darcie Chan This was just ok. It kind of read like a Nora Roberts book. All these little stories and side bars wrapped up into the bigger picture. I was able to connect with a lot of the characters, but there seem to be a LOT of the daily nuances and routines with the most "modern times." I don't need to hear about you washing dishes, counting calories, or making the same dinner again and again. The flashbacks, oh man I wanted to kill you know who. I did not like reading about Monarch being abused. But I'm glad he ended up being ok. And why wouldn't Mary just go see someone about her anxiety? Or at least have someone else come speak with her about? I'm sure that Michael could've found someone much more educated in that profession, especially later on in her life.It was a sad tale in the beginning and even near the end. The "twist" at the end wasn't a real gasp out loud kind of twist, but it did make the story that much more believable. Bottom line: Decent story for 99 cents. Thanks Kindle!
The Fault in Our Stars - John Green This was just ok for me.Ok, don't get me wrong, I'm not heartless or anything. Yes, this book did make me cry and the tears flowed at all the right parts of the book that it should have.Cancer SUCKS. It really does. It's just that...I didn't LIKE the characters of this book. I think that I just couldn't relate to them. I wanted to, really I did. Just so much happened to these kids at such a young age, they will miss their whole lives not experiencing things, not living life, but yet...they seem so wise. Cliché I know. Bottom line: I think there was so much hype around this book because of the subject matter. A kid with cancer meets more kids with cancer and bond because everyone is dying. It's kind of a hard subject matter to go through; the emotional rollercoaster of watching someone you love slowly die and then being that same person who is dying watching your loved ones watch you wither away. It's a hard, touchy subject. Kudos to John Green, but like I said, this book was just ok for me. I just feel like this was done before, in every OTHER book about cancer. It just felt trite to me.

Consequences

Consequences - Aleatha Romig HOLY FUCKING SHIT. WHADAFUQ DID I JUST READ?This was a total mind fuck. I kept persevering and persevering to get to the end of this torture. Not that the book was torture, but the torture that Claire was going through. I don't...I don't even...I'm speechless. Holy shit. This book...is so fucked up. Like I mean...there's really no other words for it. It's a mindfuck book. And not mindfuck book like [b:Gone Girl|8442457|Gone Girl|Gillian Flynn|http://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1339602131s/8442457.jpg|13306276] by [a:Gillian Flynn|2383|Gillian Flynn|http://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/authors/1232123231p2/2383.jpg]. This was a whole different breed...nay, species! This literally took me a day to read this on my e-reader. I was so absorbed with this story. I HAD to know how it ended. I did NOT see this coming. I don't want to put any spoilers in this review. I just want you all to know that I am 100% completely dumbfounded by it all. I had to shake my head after reading in a failed attempt to clear my head at the audacity of it all. Aleatha Romig...she is going to mess you up.I'm scared to pick up the next book. This first one freaked me out so much, from beginning to the ending. It's a different kind of horror. I want to see the revenge happen, but I don't believe Claire can succeed. I think she will bow to Anthony's charms just like every other damn time.I have never seen such a bad case of Stockholm Syndrome in my life! Not that I'm around people who've had this done to them or ever talked to anyone who has ever had it, you know what? Let me just say that this was fucked up and leave it at that. This was probably a really horrible review because I just kept saying it was fucked up and not explaining WHY it was fucked up. I just...there's just so much...just read it. If you dare...Bottom line: I turned every damn page of this book in shock at what happened on the prior page, believing that the next would be get better. And you know what? It did. But not the way you thought it would. This kept me hoping and praying for a happy ending. I have a feeling that this author is going to be a billionaire. I was literally held captive by her words and storytelling. This is a helluva mindfuck so beware! Enter at your own risk.
The Bet - Rachel Van Dyken This was ok. It was predictable chick lit. Cute story with a happy ending. Can't beat that! Rachel left room for a sequel. Might check it out.But I preferred Rachel Van Dyken's [b:Ruin|18134249|Ruin|Rachel Van Dyken|http://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1374686324s/18134249.jpg|25473547] and [b:Elite|18170509|Elite (Eagle Elite, #1)|Rachel Van Dyken|http://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1373556000s/18170509.jpg|24800673]. Bottom line: Good ol' fun chick lit. Quick read and cute story.
Elite - Rachel Van Dyken This was really, really good! I can't wait to read the next one in the series!Great start to a series, so many questions in the beginning, but towards the middle you start to figure things out slowly. Bottom line: Want to read the next one NOW!
Ruin - Rachel Van Dyken This was really, really good. A great feel-good type of book. I laughed, I swooned, I cried. It was a really great book.I categorized it under young adult only because there were times where it felt a little rushed with the romance. Even though Wes was 21 and very wise for his age, Kiersten was super sheltered, innocent, and young.I started reading this last night and I didn't want to stop! But I needed sleep, so I picked it up again at my lunch hour and finished it. Quick, enjoyable read. Totally worth the 99 cents from Kindle!Bottom line: Great feel-good book. Highly recommend for those kind of days where you need a pick me up and to know that hope is a wonderful thing. Got to have faith!
The Bat: A Harry Hole thriller (Harry Hole 1) - Jo Nesbo This was good. I did enjoy it.However, I suggest reading this book in one sitting. I had placed it down a couple of times, and had to flick back and forth to remember who the characters were.Didn't see the twist near the end, so this author might have a new follower!! :)The only reason I picked this foreign mystery thriller up was back a few months ago the library The Snowman had made it's English debut. I read the inside jacket to find out that the others in this series were slowly being translated.I did not have trouble with the translation, thought it was pretty good. Bottom line: This is a good introductory first book to a series. Learned a lot about Australia.
Life After Life - Kate Atkinson This was just ok for me. It was really, really long. There were times in the book where I felt like she could've just wrapped it up. In the beginning and the end, there were quick, short chapters and little segments that had me turning the pages fast. Then the whole chunk of the middle was so excoriatingly long and wordy. I wanted more from this book. Someone recommended it to me, who I usually get awesome recommendations from. This one just didn't do it for me. I felt like I missed a lot of what was going on, because I didn't know German. The author flips back and forth between the two languages and doesn't explain what was just said. The way that the author would sometimes open up a new segment and/or chapter in the middle of something that the reader knew NOTHING about also aggravated me. And then you would turn back the page you were just reading, skim through it, thinking..."wait who is this? what just happened?" but then continue on forward with the next part, read about 2 to 3 pages and then the explanation would come about. Very confusing to me.I'm still confused by the ending...
